Tour Tales: Nicole’s Favorite Bites of Boston Tour Story
Hey everyone! We’ve cooked up something else special for you while tours are on hold and we’re so excited to share it.
This is the next post in our new series called “Tour Tales,” a group of short videos where our lovely Bites of Boston tour guides and staff share their favorite stories and foods from our tours. We want you to get to know us better while also getting a taste of the food, knowledge, and stories that we have to offer on our food tours. Enjoy!
In today’s video, one of our adventure and culture-loving tour guides, Nicole, shares her favorite story from the Chinatown’s Culture & Cuisine Tour:
Thanks, Nicole!
We are so grateful to be working with Taiwan Cafe on our Chinatown’s Culture & Cuisine Tour. Their soup dumplings, or xiaolongbao, became a very quick favorite amongst the Bites of Boston staff as we worked to develop this food tour. And to help us savor them even more they have an incredible back story, and Nicole tells it wonderfully!
FUN FACT: Taiwan Cafe was actually Nicole’s favorite restaurant in Chinatown, even before we began our food tour there, and she lived in Shanghai in 2013 for a college semester abroad, so she really came to know the local cuisine there and love soup dumplings.
When she’s not giving food tours with Bites of Boston, Nicole works in the Massachusetts Legislature under the golden dome at the State House where she’s worked since fall 2018. She is a Legislative Aide to one of the 160 State Representatives in Massachusetts. As the sole staff to Representative Keefe of Worcester, Nicole works alongside her to manage legislative affairs, communications, scheduling and administrative tasks, and most importantly, constituent services to help people in her district. Lately this has meant connecting people to social services like unemployment insurance, SNAP benefits, and stable housing in Worcester. She has really enjoyed working on progressive policy issues such as equitable public education, criminal justice reform, and policies that support thriving Gateway Cities and neighborhoods. Nicole loves being behind the scenes in this meaningful role that is different everyday, and hopes to remain in politics for the foreseeable future.
