It’s 4th of July morning (Happy 4th of July!), you’ve got your outfit picked out and your sunscreen ready to go to whatever festivities are planned for the day when you realize that you forgot to make that dessert you promised your friends you’d bring. There’s a simple solution that’ll take no time and make you look like a superstar—TRIFLE. Trifles are super easy to assemble and everyone goes wild for them. Make it patriotic by layering cake with whipped cream (or Cool Whip, because let’s be honest this is last minute), and an assortment of berries such as strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries.

If you want to step it up a little more and not use grocery store cake (but we will not judge you if you do, it’s the effort that counts here) pop into one of these local spots to grab a fun treat to use as the cake layer of your trifle.

If you’re near the Fenway area grab some of Sweet Cheek’s famous buttermilk biscuits to-go, and tear them into large pieces as the cake layers of your trifle. You will definitely be invited back next year if you show up with patriotic biscuit trifle.
